The wheel has a lot to do with it. the play, poop, pee and do all kinds of things in that wheel. I have to clean mine out twice a week and make sure the pouch is clean once a week. that should keep the smell down.
I've had other glider owners suggest water with a little bit of tea tree oil to clean the cage with. I haven't tried it just yet, but I plan on it this weekend.
the wheel just seems like the biggest factor to me. i mean, even if they pee all over the place... at least they are not bathing themselves in it. that wheel just spins it all over them until they are soaked in it. I watched them again tonight. it is horrible. they are loosing that wheel for sure!
also, they are 10 mo right now... as they get older will they stop pissing on you every time you pick them up? My older male doesnt do it. i mean, he has before... but not like these young ones are doing. im hopping that will get better.
You will need to use the wheel to trim their nails unless you do it yourself. what I would suggest is using a open face hamster wheel and use the nail trimer a few times.
I suggest waiting 5 min after they wake up before you take them out of the cage, that's when they get most of thier "business" done so it's not done on you.
I don't think I'd try baby wipes on my glider, just a wet washcloth if absolutely needed.
I was meaning that I wouldn't use baby wipes to wipe down my gliders.
I would definately try the Clorox wipes for the cage though, if I wasn't planning on using the tea tree oil tomorrow. (I already have some from a different situation)
