Hello, I recently purchased two 6 month old female sugar gliders. I have had them for a week now. I have been putting my hand in the cage and offering them treats etc to get used to me, i didnt even try to handle them for a few days when i first got them.
They seem to be quite happy. I went out and bought some toys and such for their cage including a plastic chain bridge, a wood and rope swing, some branches and a plastic ball with a bell. Are these all ok for them?
Also only five minutes ago i felt confident enough to let one out of them out of the cage....she refused to come to me even when i placed my hand near her with honey on she was more interested in exploring. I had a bit of a stress moment and worried how i would get her back in the cage, i threw a cardigan over her and managed to pick her up with out and crabbing etc.. People on here mention that they have 'taken' their gliders into other rooms, and this may sound silly but how on earth do you handle them without stressing them out? They really dont seem to respond to being picked up. I am very gentle.
I was wondering whether they may be too old for the bonding process or havnt been handled enough previously to enjoy human contact...? I read on here about placing some fleece material into their sleeping area to get them used to my scent. I shall do that as from tonight....
Basically i am very eager (and patient) to form a real loving relationship with my gliders...any help people can offer me would be great!
