glidercentral.net has all the information you are looking for and thousands of members. Gliders do need to be on an approved diet...........diets are explained there under the big blue link button at the top left of the page at glider central.............................loads of info there!!! for protein .....mine like unseasoned boiled chicken, scrambled eggs, meal worms, etc. I bought a Genji tent.................mostly screen and very large............pops up and down in a minute. just google genji or you can get a small 20 dollar tent at walmart and some feather teasers and other intereactive toys............................no cat toys (catnip is toxic)
For diet, I highly recommend The Priscilla Price diet. You can find the recipe at Priscilla's own website, www.thepetglider.com by clicking on 'Nutrition System'. This diet focuses on all aspects of a great Sugar Glider diet, I feed it every evening in addition to 1 tablespoon of yogurt and fresh fruits, veggies. I also give them Sugar Cane once a week as a treat (It's very high in Sugar which is not too good, so feed in moderation). They also get 10-15 mealworms (Live and LARGE!) each every other night.
For bonding, start with a bonding pouch. You can purchase one at www.sugar-gliders.com. You can keep your babies in there for several hours at first or even all day. Then, tent time, basically speaks for itself. Let your gliders roam in a "Glider Proof" room or large tent. I use a 10ft x 12ft screen room.
There are some good proven diets out there.................................I think people should do their own research and chose a proven diet based on availabilty of ingredients and time it takes to make it.
Glad you like the PP diet Lauren...................it is not however a diet I would ever feed because of some of the ingredients and kinda difficult in some ways but many people do successfully!!!!
I somewhat agree. There are many factors that come into play when I choose what to feed my Sugar Gliders. The first big part is looking to see which diet is physically BEST for them. Which has the most protein? Calcium? Which is the freshest and could be made in different ways for variety reasons? Then I look, like you said into the list of ingredients, availability and quality. How long it will take to make it, and, how long the serving size once made, will last before I have to re-make it.
There are so many proven diets, it really is up to you to choose which one you prefer, if your gliders don't show interest to one, try another, give them choice, they will let you know which one they like the best. And, if it's good for them, stick with that one. I honestly, would recommend The Priscilla Price Diet, but you may not find it satisfactory, research it and definitely keep us posted!
Cora,
When I purchased my three boys from her she recommended that I try it, I originally had them on BML but they'd never finish it, they didn't seem interested at all. So, maybe they'd eat hers? It was worth a try. The ingredients list is very long, so many things are mixed together. It does take time, but in the end I believe it is worth it. I can understand where you would say it is difficult, it took me several times reading through the preparation steps and e-mails to Priscilla before I understood it. =D
