So, after years of thinking that a Suggie would make a great pet for me, and after exhaustive research, I've decided that I would become a Glider's pet. I've purchased a young WFB male who is just about 9 weeks OOP. I picked him up Monday evening and, after ensuring the cage was where I wanted it and having everything ready, took him from the bonding pouch I brought him home in and let him climb in his sleeping pouch.
He crabbed, lurched, and even gave me a little bite. At first I was very nervous and pulled away. I'm not scared of him, I'm just scared of hurting such a little guy. However, I got a quick drink of water, calmed my nerves, and went in open palmed, cupped him, and got the transfer done. He's been pretty content, and has been eating and drinking, so I'm feeling pretty good.
He would come out to eat and drink and explore, and I'll set next to his cage and talk to him.
I decided today that it was time to get him some more time in the bonding pouch on me. I went in slowly and he was pretty nervous, but I was able to scoop him up without much more than crabbing. Before I could get him into the bonding pouch, he jumped onto one of his toys, so I tried to scoop him from the front and back. He wasn't very happy, and decided to bite. He bit a couple of times and then he latched on pretty good. I just let him, and tried to maintain a two hand scoop. I spoke to him softly to try and calm him down. He did, but as I moved to put him in the bonding pouch, he got excited again. I got him in, and have him in the pouch around my neck now. I'm hoping I didn't grab him to harshly. He's not real happy, but I wouldn't be either.
I didn't have any zip ties to put my Stealth Wheel in with, so I'm going to do that now while I have him out, and move his toys a bit. Then I think I'll put him back in the bonding pouch so I can get him out easier while he's asleep as some here have suggested. I believe I probably need to give him a little more time to get used to the new home, so I'll not try and handle him again for a bit. Just gonna try talking to him and some licky treats through the cage.
Anyways, sorry for the long wall of text, but I'm very excited about my new friend, and want a place that I can post my experiences to ensure I'm doing things the right way. Thanks in advance for any advice that I'm sure I'll need!
