Well, my husband and I have been building a nice big cage from supplies at home depot.  For those of you that have built a cage... what did you use for the tray for the bottom?  We can't seem to come up with what would work for it.  Would need to be 2'x3'.  Ideas?  Thanks!

i just built a cage a few days ago and i used a plastic coated screen for the bottom of the cage and secured a couple of pieces of wood underneath each side of the cage leaving a 'lip' so that a nice flat piece of wood can slide on and off the top of the 'lips'. this worked for me but my cage stands 2 feet off the ground
i also built mine from supplies from home depot
hope this helps
let me know

Oh yeah, that's the stuff we made the cage out of.... the green vinyl 1/2" stuff.  So, yeah, the bottom of it is made of that.  Then under that you put wood to make a lip and then slid another piece of flat wood under it?  Does the wood itself have a lip so the stuff collected on it doesn't fall off when you slide it out?
A towel might work.  Would be easy to just throw in the wash, although I like the metal tray in the small cage I have now.  Wish I could find something similar for my big cage.

I think our cage is 3'x2' and 5' tall.  We wanted it to fit on a table we have the old cage on but make it go all the way to the ceiling.  So, thats what we did.  Your cages are all a bit bigger.  Do you think mine is big enough?

well that depend on how many you have in there if its only 2 i would no go smaller keep in mind that they like to jump around    so if each time they jump they end up face first on the other side of the cage   well ... but i think yours is good i puted a towel on the botom of mine for the cleaning   less time cleaning more time playing i do not have to scrub the hell out of the tray to get it to not stink    a tour in the washing machine and there we go like that i do not use any chimical just good old soap i didint put the green stuff on mine just the metal one   thats what was recomanded to me by the breeder i bought them from   but it make sence ..for the green stuff i mean if i only tought about it be4 i would of put that to ...what do you have for toys in there ....   i want to put a real tree in mine what do you suggest hieroglyphe2008-02-27 22:30:37

 branches of eucalyptus would be great! they like to climb it and eat it too! it has vitamins that are good for them. but a whole eucalyptus tree would be a lil big. just find a tree you can cut branches off of every so often.
i have a huge eucalyptus tree in my backyard and its great!
try it

Isn't eucalyptus poisonous to most animals?  Even if gliders can eat one kind, I'd be careful with what you give them as I know of at least 13 different types of eucalyptus tree (I did a research project on koala's for school MANY years ago...).  I honestly don't know about gliders though.

What other trees are ok for gliders?  I see applewood and grapevine at the pet stores all the time, are those safe?  I'd love to use more natural branches but I worry about putting my fuzz-butts at risk.
