I visited my fiance's house today where she has 5 gliders now. Two are about 5 weeks oop. The female seems to be doing well but the male baby did not look well when I saw him.
He was alone and still spread out on the bottom of the cage. When I tried to touch him he jumped and started screaching at me while shaking. His father came down to see what was going on and the baby swatted and screached at his dad.

I picked the baby up and he calmed down, my future wife has been holding the babies since 1-2 days oop on a near daily basis so they are pretty tame already.

I gave him to her and she tried to feed him some BLM while I did a search for joey problems.  One site said that for abandond joeys you should hand feed them a watered down version of BLM.  So I warmed about 1/4 tsp BLM in about 2 TBS of water to body temp. He greedily ate/drank about 1.5ml before falling asleep.

I tried to feed him again about 10 min later but he didn't want to wake up. So we put him back into the nest where his uncle is 'taking care' of him and keeping him company.

Please let me know if we should be taking additional actions.

thanks

i''m a bit of a novice, but make sure he gets his fluids and keep him warm. does he seem cold? i'd also look into quarantining him as well. place him in a incubatory type situation. and feed him often. you should find a milk subsitute for joeys.... since he isnt weaned yet. his system might not be able to break down complex foods. if his belly begins to swell, you should seek a vet. if he doesnt imporove you should seek a vet.

if you think he is dying, you should seek a vet

when i said incubatory- i was thinking like one of those plastic hermit crab tanks- with carefresh bedding and a very warm room.

make sure he has enough water

he makes a point, but I dont think an incubator would be neccessary at this point.
by 5 weeks, they should be able to regulate their own body temperature.

try supplement feeding him every couple of hours.

look here for more info on joey care

We've been working them onto babyBLM for the last couple days.  This evening they ate a bit of non-diluted food from a tray. They seem to be regaining their strength but are still shaky. The vet said probably calcium deficiency so we bumped up that part of BLM today.
The little girl has lost most of the hair on her backside. Vet said this could be stress or lack of protein so we are keeping an eye on this to see if gets worse.

I heard that the BML diet is bad for the sugar gliders. It could get stuck in their tummies and they cant digest it, so it could kill them. Idk? Is that true?
By idk, i mean i dont know!!
