My first joey, Pixie (who is all grown up now) and I went for our usual pet store outing today. She likes to see all of her fans. She let everyone hold her and pet her and rode on my shoulder in her usual queenlike fashion. StarShe was her normal affectionate self. However I noticed she was grooming herself alot. After we noted that she had most of the toys in the pet store we went back out to the car and I put her in her pouch.

I noticed again that she was grooming and she made a little hissing noise. Pixie is my quiet one so I picked her up to see what was wrong just in time to see her assisting a pencil eraser sized baby into her pouch. Shocked

She sat in my hand and made no attempt to go anywhere and gave birth to a second baby and helped them into the pouch. She just looked at me afterwards, and was perfectly content to let me stroke her head for a minute then put I her gently back in her pouch.Embarrassed

Needless to say, I quickely drove home and put her and her new twins with her cagemates. It was a complete accident because I don't take my females anywhere if I think they are pregnant, but I had no idea with Pix (it is her first joeys). I am just amazed how bonded these animals can get to us. Not only does she love on me everyday, but she allowed me to witness this event and acted like I belonged. Pretty cool huh?

I am SOOOO jealous. witnessing a glider give birth is an incredibly rare thing. cherish that moment for the rest of your life; it probably wont happen again.

Wow!  Oh how I wished you had a video camera to cover the whole thing.  May I ask how long it took for her to give birth to the twins?  You put her in the cage with her cagemates -- how many are they in the cage?

thanks

It all happened so quick.  I was in my car in the parking lot of the pet store.  I think it took about 5 minutes.  I did think quick and grab my cell phone and took a pic of Pix helping the baby in her pouch.  However the baby is only about the size of a pencil eraser and I only got a quick pic of the head and one of the baby's hand.  It is really too blurry to tell what it is.  My finacee had trouble seeing it so I didn't post it.
