Hello....i have had my two lovely girls for two weeks now, and bonding is going great! they both feed from my hands, they sit on one hand having treats and fruit whilst i pet them with my other hand....they seem perfectly happy crawling up my arm etc, but i am worried about letting them explore out of the cage at the moment....

i will be introducing tent time soon, but my only concern with this is this:

They generally dont wake up until about 23:30.....i know they are nocturnal but its getting increasingly hard for me to stay up long enough to spend quality time with them...is there any way of 'training' them to wake up a little earlier?

I know this sounds insensitive to their usual habits but there must be an achievable middle ground?

Thanks for any help offered...

Yes, you can habituate them to waking earlier.  Begin by putting their food in the cage at the hour you want them to wake.  Then, take their cage pouch down and lay it near their food bowl.  They should come out to explore, and then you can hang the pouch back up.  Do this for about a week, then just begin putting the food in earlier.   You can also make sure that the room they are in is darkened at the hour you want them up.  I use black out curtains in one of my rooms.
If you follow the same schedule, then it won't be long before they are habituated to it.  When rescues come into my home, I have no idea what their schedule had been like before.  But, I feed at 6:00 ish, so it is not long before they are all up by 6:00 even if I am not trying to change their schedule.   All of the gliders in my home are up and playing/eating between 6-7 P.M. every night.
It is best to habituate them to a schedule that is EASY for you to spend several hours each night with them.  Allowing you to observe and play with them for many hours is the best way to spot early changes in behavior or functioning that might trigger illness.

Great! Thanks....I don't normally get home from work until 7:30 so I will just begin feeding them as soon as I get in. I will try the method you suggest! Thanks for your time! Ill let you know progress!

Hi, I'm new here, so I feel awkward answering any posts, but....  I get my kids out during the day for a little while.  They are sleepy, and I can usually hold them, and handle them a lot easier than when they are raring to go and full of energy.  I try to take turns with my six gliders, getting a different one out for bonding time even if it is only for a half hour or so.  I don't try to make them do anything they don't want to do, they usually just sleep in my hand and cuddle inside the pouch, and sometimes out of the pouch.
