Hi!

I come from Slovenia and Sugar gliders are not as common her as they are in U.S.A. for example, so not many people have experience with them.

I have two female sugar gliders (mom and daughter) for about a year now. The baby was born or at least came out of the pouch in our care, not in the store. The mother did a great job and the little baby girl is now big, maybe even bigger then her mother. LOL Now I would like to know if I'm doing a good job feeding them and taking care of them. I woul really like some advice.

I feed them mealworms (big ones and small ones). They love them! Then I feed them comercial baby food (supose to be without suggar) and fresh food. Oh, and somethimes I make my own food for them - I mix a lot of fruit and vegetables together and add some honey. Other than that they get some nuts and dry fruit and I also have Nekton Sugar glider for them wich they get every few weeks. So what do you think is this ok? Oh and I also tryed with dry cat food but they didn't like it... any advice on that?

I think this is quite a good diet but sometimes I get the feeling that I don't feed them enough or that they get the same food over and over again. Could you please give an example what you suggies get every night - like the whole meal?

Thank you very much!

Maya,
Hi! Wow!! I love to meet new people, especially from different parts of the world. That is really cool! It sounds as though you are on the right track as far as their diet goes.

They are not supposed to have any type of dry food (that was specifically formulated for another animal). A lot of pet stores say to feed them dry cat (I've even heard dry ferret) food. Don't listen to that! Gliders need to be on a proven diet such as the following. Visit www.thepetglider.com and click on "Nutrition System". For me, that is the best recipe out there. It focuses on all necessary components of the perfect "proven" Glider diet.

I freeze it in icecube trays and they get 1 cube (per 2 Gliders), 1 tablespoon of yogurt (per 2 Gliders), 1 Tablespoon of veggies (per 2 Gliders) and 1 tablespoon of fruits (per 2 Gliders). In other words, double the recipe if you have more than two later on. Mealworms are wonderful. I buy "100 Giant Mealworms" and they seem to like them best. They aren't too small but they aren't as big as "superworms"

That is what I feed them, the recipe off the website with the extras. They get mealworms every other night (8-10 each) or each night (5-6 each). You can also try crickets (store-bought not live-caught). If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for the warm welcome. If you wish I can write down something in Slovene so you can get a feeling on how we speak.

I checked out the page and it has some great tips. So you feed them like they recommend on that page? Well how many suggies do you own? You see, I have only two and they don't eat that much. When I make a big bowl of mixed fruti and vegetables it last a long time. If I were to make 4 bowls they would last me a couple of months.

So you give them one ice cube of this mixture and then one tablespoon of yogurt (what kind?), 1 tablespoon of veggies (what kind?) and one tablespoon of fruits. So the fruits and veggies are fresh right? I must admit I really don't give them veggies... I simply don't know what to give them. Oh, and they get around 2 mealworms each, should I increase it?

And another thing bothers me - I would really like to get some more food for my suggies, like the things a saw on that page (in the shop) but I don't know how to get them since I'm from Slovenia...

Maya,
It's not a problem, welcome to the board! I would love to see how things are spoken in Slovene, I'd really appreciate the learning experience!

I have seven Gliders, my friend has three and she just cuts the recipe in half, if that's still too much just cut it in half again. It should last about 2 weeks - 1 month frozen (but I have seven).

I use this yogurt called "Fruit On The Bottom", you mix it up and it has real fruit juice. It also comes in a very large variety of flavours to choose from so they will never get bored! If you can't find it, I think just about any low-fat "real fruit-flavored" yogurt will do just fine. Good vegetables include carrots, corn, spinach, etc...All of the fruits and veggies are fresh. They should be getting 5-6 mealworms each per day, or 8-10 mealworms each every other day.

What are you looking at? Please give me a link to the food you have seen on the webpage or tell me the name of the product. I do not recommend any kind of pelleted food for Gliders, Priscilla sells a MultiVitamin which I've heard wonderful things about. I also give them Monkey Biscuits soaked in fruit juices as a snack during the day, which they love! I do not recommend feeding Gliders any kind of "pellet" diet though.

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi!

If you wish you can write a sentence and will translate it into Slovene. And then if you would be interested I could teach you some basic word, alphabet and stuff like that... Wink Now, back to our suggies...

Ok, I'll try that recipe and let you know how it went. So you say your gliders like yogurt? I think I gave mine some once, but they didn't like it. Maybe I'll try this "Fruit on the Bottom"... I think we have it here in Slovenia.

I tryed to give my suggies tomatos and lettuce once and I think they tried some. So you give them like a peace of carrot, a peace of spinach (leaves?) and what else? Do you cut fruit and veggies in small peaces?

So I should give them like 5-6 big mealworms each day? What about the small ones, how many should they get? Oh, I gave them hard boiled egg and some small peaces of chicken (salami) but they did't even tuch it. What should I do?

About the food at the shop - I meant this: http://www.thepetglider.com/index/index ... tail&id=36

I would really like to have those things for them but don't know how to get them... Confused

Maya,
That'd be pretty awesome!!! How do you say ""?

Please do let me know how your Gliders like the recipe. My Gliders do love yogurt as do many Gliders. Yeah, see if you have that brand of yogurt, mix it up and feed them a tablespoon (per 2 Gliders).

My Sugar Gliders do not enjoy tomatoes or lettuce, I slice up carrot, give them a few spinach leaves (steamed), they also like steamed broccoli and I just vary, giving them different things each night. Yes, cut them up into pieces, or slice them. They do likes the purple grapes as well as many types of melon. Try Mango with yours, it seems to be a favorite here.

I think 5-6 mealworms each per day would be ideal. I feed them "Giant Mealworms" and buy them in containers of 100, don't feed them "Super Worms" I've heard horror stories about them, but they may be just that, stories. I wouldn't risk it though. If you feed small ones, you can give each about 10-12. Hard boiled eggs and broiled or boiled chicken (shredded) are good sources of protein, the chicken shouldn't have any seasoning. You can try low fat turkey or low fat ham and see if they eat that.

I love Priscilla Price but I don't agree with that particular product she has available. I have some of her vitamins (the powder looking stuff) and monkey biscuits. The only thing I'd recommend is Monkey Biscuits soaked in Apple Juice, they don't have to be that particular model. Just google "Monkey Biscuits" or ask some one. If you feel like your Gliders need extra calcium, you can sprinkle 1/8 tsp. of rep-cal over their food.

Pelleted foods are never recommended for Gliders, many owners are against them. I feed them The Priscilla Price Diet nightly, with soaked monkey biscuits in the cage at all times in case they wake up and would like a snack, as many of mine do.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Have you been to glidercentral.net???    There might be more people respond to your questions/issues.  There are also links to proven diets..................................who knows you might even find a diet that includes ingredients you have locally.  just find one diet and stick to it..............................................mixing diets throws off ratios.  I personally do not use any of that stuff from the link you provided. I know IF you chose to use pellets they should be softened with juice or water.    Yes cut fruits/veggies  in small peices.  I use frozen and make veggie relish and fruit smoothies..............much easier and my gliders seem to like it better!!!  I still stick some fresh on the plates though!

Sorry... what did you want to know - how do we say what?

Well I'll just keep trying and maybe they'll like something out of it... What do you think about scrambled eggs?

So where could I get these products? I don't have the correct credit card to pay through pay pal... Confused What about if you soak the pellets like you do wiht the monkey biscuits? I would really like try these products...

Maya,

Oh! Oops, sorry! How do you say "Today I am going to the stables to ride my horses."?

Scrambled eggs work just fine! Mine have never particularly cared for them, but there's no harm in trying, right? I've heard of many Gliders who enjoy them.

I don't know where you would purchase these things where you live, I guess you'll just have to try googling them and see if you can find them that way. Look on www.craigslist.com, maybe someone is selling them and willing to ship. I would never feed pellets to my Gliders under any circumstances. If you'd like to try, go ahead. Please keep us informed.

We would say it like this: "Danes grem v hlev jahat svoje konje."
