Howdy, I've got a sweet 11 week old female Joey. She seems quite tame and curious. I am wondering how long I can safely keep her in the bonding pouch during the day?
For example if she sleeps during the day, can I keep her in it for hours as long as I have it with me (i.e. bring her to work discreetly if I have an office job?) When I do have her, I always keep fruit in the pouch as well.

At night when I am out and she is awake, is it ok to keep her in the pouch- or is this mean b/c she is awake and moving around in the pouch?

Thanks...

Since they are nocturnal...I would take her out of the pouch at night. Keep her in her cage if you won't be there with her. She'll need the exercise and play time, as well as eat. If her cage has a wheel, and a lot of toys, she will be just fine. She most likely will try and get out of the pouch at night once she's awake.

Day time is for bonding, Night time is for play.  That is a pretty good rule to follow at all times.  Use the bonding pouch during the day, but don't force her to stay in it once she is awake.  She will trust you much more if you respect her wants and needs.

When do you plan to get her a friend?

If she wakes during the day and is shuffling around in the pouch, it could mean she's thirsty (grape,  melon, etc)  or that she's gotta go potty.  Some gliders will NOT dirty their beds, so she might just be uncomfortable till she can get out and relieve herself.  ??  Other gliders poop and pee and then sleep in it.  I've got both.

Yeah, it does. all the time. So that is always why I wear an old shirt or a old sweatshirt.  I don't really mind it though.

Sugarbear,
I agree with Val, day time is for bonding as night time is for play. It is fine to keep her in the bonding pouch all day, or for a few hours if you prefer. However, night time is when she is going to want to be out and about, not contained. I would strongly discourage the use of a bonding pouch at night. You really do need to get your little girl a friend, that will make her love you even more because she now has someone (of her own species) to play around with! =P It's vital, Sugar Gliders are community dwellers by nature and just don't do well when kept singly.
Thanks.
